Sell size, colour and other variants
Give each option combination its own SKU, stock and price adjustment without letting two variants sell the same combination.
Updated
A variant is the thing a customer actually buys when a product has options: size L in black, not just "the product". Each one carries its own SKU, barcode, stock and price adjustment.
- Open a product and edit it.
- In the Variants section choose Add variant.
- Give it at least one localized label, one option combination (for example size = L), a SKU and a stock count. Zero stock is a valid answer.
- Set the price adjustment. It is added to the product’s configured price; it may be negative, but it may never make a configured price negative.
- Save. Edit later with the same form; archive a variant you no longer sell.
- Option combination
- One variant per combination; two variants cannot share size L
- SKU / barcode
- Unique in your shop; an empty field is not an identity
- Price adjustment
- Added to the base price at the shop currency’s precision
- Stock
- The sellable count for this combination only
- Archived
- Still readable on old orders, no longer offered
If a product has active variants, the base product is no longer the thing being sold: the customer must choose a combination. Stock on the base product does not cover variant sales.
